Menu holder of the 4th Prince of Wales Own Madras Cavalry

The attractive menu holder measures 68 x 55 mm overall and is cast as a headdress badge of the regiment worn between 1870 and 1891, illustrated in Ashok Nath Izzat ref C1.55.06 [shown in one of our illustrations]. The base of the holder is marked STERLING and it is in good condition. The central elephant is always associated with the battle of Assaye in 1803 during the 3rd Mahratta War. aug17/3
