Dr Adam Clarke and the Priests of Buddha. A small engraving by Robinson, after a painting by Mosses in the possession of the Royal Asiatic Society. Measuring just 4 x 3¼ ins but with wide margins to the plate marks and on a wider page – 10½ x 8ins. The engraving, published by Fisher, Son & Co. London 1844 shows the Methodist minister with two traditionally clothed Buddhist priests, at least one of whom Clarke was to baptise as a Christian. Clarke [1762 -1 832] was of irish origins. jul8/1
