Military Seminary of the HEIC, 16mm gilt

POA

A very good example of the small gilt 16mm button of the Military Seminary which would have been worn by a cadet intended for the Artillery on entry to the East India Company’s Army. It has the title MILITARY SEMINARY with a typical artillery shield of three cannonballs above three cannon and surmouted by the Company’s lion crest. The backmark is NUTTING ENGLAND and the button, of officer’s quality, retains a good amount of the original gilt finish.   nov10/1  SOLD 11th November 2024

Addiscombe was founded in 1809 to train young gentlemen for the East India Company’s Cavalry, Infantry. Artillery, and Engineers and closed in 1861. Details of the Seminary together with a list of the names of the Cadets training there appear in the East India Register which was published each year. The buyer of this button can be sent an email of that information if requested from us. Please state a year you would prefer. Out reference library has copies of all but a handful of copies.
