Oxford Military College 25mm gilt button by Jennens & Co.
£30.00
A gilt 25mm button of officer’s quality with the backmark JENNENS & Co. LONDON. The distinctive design shows crossed swords with laurel decoration around, all beneath a mural crown. I am informed by a reliable source that this button was used by the Oxford Military College , which a short lived boarding school which produced some distinguished soldiers during its existence from 1876 to 1896. This mural crown appears on some British and Indian Army badges and is often associated with the siege of Jellalabad during the First Afghan War of 1838-. 1842. It also features on three related medals, those for Ghuznee, Jellalabad, & Kelat-i-Ghilzie. mar17/1
