PETRE. The arms appear above the lettering The Right Honble. Robert James Ld. Petre, Thorndon in Eseex. The only Lord Petre to be called Robert James was the 8th Baron [1713-42], a noted horiculturalist who married an heiress of the Walmesley family from Lancashire. The bookplate, 80 x 68 mm, is trimmed, a little unevenly, to just outside the plate marks. feb11/1
