Tezpore, Assam. A silver plated prize jug of 1877

A 12 ins high silver plated, lidded jug with the engraved prize inscription The Mungledne Cup TEZPORE SKY RACES JANUARY 1877 WON by MR W. SKINNERS “BABY”. The well made jug is profusely decorated with mainly geometrical designs and the lid has a knop in the form of a pineapple. There are a series of maker’s marks on the base. The jug leans on its base, probably having been dropped at some time. However there are no visible marks of damage and a professional could probably make it stand straight. jul13/1

William Skinner  was a member of a promminent and well connected British family in Assam and was the Manager of the United Tea Company.
