Udaipur – Mewar. A good formal portrait of H. H. Maharana Sir Bhupal Singh of Udaipur, G.C.S.I., K.C.L.E., The 10 x 7 ins portrait is pasted to old card and shows the ruler of the 21 gun salute state seated wearing Indian court dress with the mantle of a Kinght Grand Commander of the Most Exalted Order of the Star of India together with the chain and badges of the order. Although there is no indication of the photographer similar portraits were taken by Lafayette in the early thirties. The Maharana was awarded his G.C.S.I. in 1931, having reveived his K.C.I.E. in 1919. Living from 1884 to 1955 he became ruler in 1930 although he had been effetively in charge of the state for the previous decade following his father’s paralysis. may27/1
