A p[en backed gilt livery button for the family of Kent, sAdd Newhows a crest of an ash tree with the motto above CARPE DIEM [literally Seize the Day, meaning take the opportunity]. The backmark is REYNOLDS & Co. 50 ST. MARTINS LANE LONDON . There is a little rubbing to some of the original gilt finish but the button would benefit from cleaning. Possibly for Sir Frederick Wigan, 1st Baronet. sep2/3
