Royal postillion or groom photographed in India, 1912
£80.00
A very good photograph, 5¾ x 3¾ ins, by W. V. Eden, Bangalore, India mounted on the photographer’s decorative card, 9 x 6¾ ins. The sitter is not named and his precise position in the royal household is not known but his dress suggests a postillion or groom. His medals are a George V Royal Victorian Medal [the Edwardian version has a more ornate suspension, for which see aug3/2]. and the Delhi Durbar 1911. On his left sleeve he has an oval badge of the George V cypher beneath a tudor or king’s crown. aug4/1
We have not been able to identify this uniform and it would repay further research.
